On October 14, Gunnison County CSU Cooperative Extension (CSU CE) hosted its second 2026 Upper Gunnison Basin Inter-seeding Workshop utilizing a new drill seeder owned by the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District (UGRWCD) and housed with CSU CE. UGRWCD and CSU CE collaborated on the project focused on supporting local research on high elevation drought tolerant grass hay species. Our sincere thanks to CSU CE Hannah Cranor-Kersting for spearheading this educational effort with support from Dr. Joe Brummer and John Scott. Another great example of the benefits of community collaboration and partnership and UGRWCD’s District Grant Program!

John McClow Receives Diane Hoppe Leadership Award
The Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District (UGRWCD) is proud to recognize longtime general counsel John McClow, who was recently honored with the prestigious Diane Hoppe Leadership Award at Water Education Colorado’s annual President’s Reception.
The award recognizes outstanding leadership and dedication to Colorado’s water resources. McClow has spent decades advocating for responsible water management and protecting water interests throughout the state, including those of the Upper Gunnison River Basin.
In addition to his work with UGRWCD, McClow is a longtime Colorado Water Congress (CWC) board member, past president, and current chair of its State Affairs Committee. Throughout his distinguished career, he has also represented Colorado in negotiations involving the Colorado River Basin states, the United States, and Mexico.
McClow was introduced at the awards ceremony by fellow CWC board member David Robbins, who highlighted his longstanding contributions to Colorado water policy.
The District congratulates John on this well-deserved recognition and extends its appreciation for his decades of service, leadership, and commitment to protecting Colorado’s water resources.
