Protecting and managing water resources in the Upper Gunnison River Basin
The Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District (UGRWCD) was established in 1959 by a vote of the taxpayers pursuant to the Water Conservancy Act to conserve, protect, and defend the waters within the Upper Gunnison River Basin.
Its activities now include financial, legal, political and engineering support for water rights litigation, legislation and other political activities, and support for a wide variety of local water users’ interests including agriculture, recreation, environmental, and municipal uses.
Restoring wetlands and riparian areas across the Upper Gunnison Basin to improve water retention, strengthen drought resilience, and support wildlife habitat through collaborative, low-impact restoration projects
A collaborative, basin-wide plan designed to help the Upper Gunnison community prepare for drought, including a conditions dashboard, response actions, and long-term resilience planning
(TLUG): Bringing together recreation, irrigation, fisheries, property owners, and other stakeholders to collaboratively guide Taylor Park Reservoir operations
Working collaboratively across the Upper Gunnison Basin to protect water resources, watershed health, and existing water uses through long-term planning and science-based strategies for future water challenges
